Prof. Dr. Meenu Chaudhary
Greetings and a very Happy New Year. At the outset, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of Nepal Ophthalmic Society for bestowing upon me this honor and trust of leading our society as its President. NOS has come a long way since its establishment in 1985 and we have already completed 37 glorious years.
Nepal Ophthalmic Society is a vibrant society with 426 members at present. Within our umbrella, we have 5 sub-specialty societies (Viteroretina, Cornea-Cataract & refractive surgery, Oculoplasty, Glaucoma, Pediatric and Strabismus societies) including addition of Women in ophthalmology and the Young Ophthalmologists chapter.
The objective of our Society is to guarantee eye health, establish a set of standard ground rules that will support and guide the ophthalmological profession, sharing of scientific knowledge and transfer of surgical skill nationally and internationally and contribution towards eye health research.
Patient’s eye health is at utmost priority for the society and hence scientific knowledge exchange and treatment protocols are priority of the society. Conferences, CME, surgical skill transfer, research methodology and leadership trainings are part of NOS activities for the young ophthalmologists and the residents.
I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous contribution made by the Members, Managing Committee, past presidents, secretaries, treasurers, scientific committees & all the eye hospitals & Universities, organizations, the donor agencies and many unseen forces who have contributed towards the growth of our Society.
NOS has been working on the functioning and objectives to be attained by this society, working on scientific aspect, attaining sustainable goals for vision 2020 and safeguarding the interest of the ophthalmic fraternity. Now sub- specialty societies are taking up bigger and challenging roles in the society, which is in hand to hand with cataract. Research is also now the topic of interest in the younger ophthalmic fraternity.
In the last 4 years we have lost our members to COVID -19 pandemic and we are gaining back our strength by the relentless efforts of the whole ophthalmic fraternity. Cordial relationship, communication, advocacy, dedication and hard work are the motto of our society. I am confident that with the support and active role of all the executives and the NOS members, we will achieve the goals and dreams that we all wish and dream. NOS is for ALL. Thanks & Best Wishes.
