Nepal Ophthalmic Society (NOS) meeting with American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)

Nepal Ophthalmic Society (NOS) meeting with American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)

A meeting was held between Nepal Ophthalmic Society (NOS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology on 6th Feb 2026 during the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress (APAO 2026) in Hong Kong.

Highlights of meeting.

  • The American Academy of Ophthalmology has revised its membership dues for practicing ophthalmologists outside of the U.S. The Academy’s new membership dues structure takes into account each country’s economic circumstances and is intended to make it more affordable for practicing ophthalmologists in Nepal. The membership fee now for practicing ophthalmologists in Nepal is $200 USD. (This is reduced from $595 and, for reference, U.S. practicing ophthalmologists pay $1,050 for Academy membership).
  • The Academy has a new International Fellow membership category.  This new membership category serves to recognize a commitment to life-long learning. Those who meet the requirements for International Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists will have their name posted on the Academy’s website. You can learn more about the requirements at aao.org/intfellow.
  • Residents doctors are able to take the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) International exam.
  • Invitation to the Academy to participate in upcoming 28th NoScon by developing an AAO clinical session.
  • Review the information AAO has the training programs in Nepal, so that AAO can update BCSC mailing list.
  • Academy Express: Submit items for the regional Academy Express by using the guidelines at aao.box.com/s/b8b4ozeuqdnvy0f0u01mx8t1e4ejm1un. This is a great opportunity to share and highlight journal studies from NOS members, promote NOS meetings or news, highlight award winners, leadership appointments, or other recognition opportunities, etc. with a broader audience.
  • Share updated member list with email addresses to ensure everyone receives the regional version of Academy Express, which is currently distributed to ophthalmologists in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Access the Academy’s VR ROP education at  www.aao.org/education/interactive-tool/aao-vr-education.
  • Learn how to contribute to EyeWiki at eyewiki.org/Help:Getting_Started.
